"People need to understand what's taking place and why. Regularly briefing employees internally and achieving their buy-in also makes the entire process much smoother," he says. "It all relates to budgets, running equipment longer, what's the minimum, what's recommended and what's required to keep production moving. The ultimate goal is to avoid unplanned outages. This is almost always based on historical data, manufacturer's recommendations and operation experience. Depending upon the usage, what makes sense in one plant may not be the same for the exact same piece of equipment."
