"Today's global economy has helped companies and industries achieve substantial growth, though not without increasing risks and liabilities. Product safety and product recalls are chief among them, as companies are learning. ... According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), its efforts have contributed to a 30 percent decline in the rate of consumer-related deaths and injuries since its establishment. With the hope of achieving similar success, European policymakers have modeled many product safety regulations after those of the U.S. CPSC.
