U.S. toy companies need to re-examine their product-safety procedures," says former CPSC compliance chief Alan Schoem, now at insurance broker and risk adviser Marsh. Proper safety procedures and testing for heavy metals such as lead would help reduce production risks "and reassure consumers about the safety of toys they buy for the holidays."
