William Spinard
Business Risk Consulting

Enterprise risk management (ERM), a comprehensive, integrated approach to addressing corporate risk, "is being widely adopted," according to a survey of senior finance and risk management executives around the world. Implementing an ERM strategy helps companies respond holistically to hazard, financial, strategic and operational risks. Using a common approach to identifying, evaluating and managing risk across an organization increases senior managers' confidence that they have not overlooked anything.

Mr. Spinard focuses his consulting efforts around helping companies better manage and understand the full spectrum of risks facing their organizations. Key to this process is integrating risk management with an organization’s strategic planning process. Mr. Spinard also assists organizations in implementing risk management systems – both in the process design and in system selection.

Mr. Spinard speaks frequently on the topics of risk management, valuation, corporate governance and capital at risk and has recently addressed the Basel Committee and the Institute of Internal Auditors. Freddie Mac, who was facing technology obsolescence, consistently low customer ratings, and the loss of support from its current software vendor, hired Mr. Spinard to conduct a business case analysis for its accounts receivable and billings expenditures. The business case analysis included an examination of costs, benefits and risks of various vendor solutions with specific attention focused on Freddie Mac’s web enabled functionality. Included with the business case was an implementation strategy recommendation.

Mr. Spinard received his BA in Economics from Connecticut College; his MBA – Finance from the Wharton Graduate Division, University of Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. in Finance from the Wharton Graduate Division, University of Pennsylvania. His doctoral dissertation explored risk based capital adequacy guidelines in banking.
