Michael Harris is a Senior Vice President with Marsh's FACS Construction Consulting Practice. Mr. Harris’ responsibilities include managing and resolving complex claims and contract disputes on major multi-disciplined construction projects throughout the world in a wide range of industries, including petrochemical, power, water, industrial and commercial.
With over 28 years of professional experience on domestic and international design and construction projects, Mr. Harris' extensive expertise includes contract management, international risk and claims advisory, on-site risk management, claims resolution, claims avoidance management, project advisory and cost management, and expert witness testimony.
He has experience in arbitration, litigation, and mediation proceedings in North America, Europe, the Middle East and the Far East and has been responsible for the management of formal construction dispute resolution proceedings for facilities and projects ranging from $10M to $500M.
Mr. Harris' strong project execution background, together with his expansive experience in dispute resolution, allows him to be well versed in the management of construction risks. As a risk and claims advisor on many multi-disciplined construction projects, he has successfully managed and resolved claims through the application of appropriate contract management, claims tracking, and claim avoidance techniques and policies.
He has managed construction disputes for power, water, and petrochemical projects on a global basis for claims up to $150M. His project advisory experience includes project oversight and controls management for projects ranging from $500M power & desalination plant to a $75M private hospital.
Prior to Marsh, Mr. Harris managed the international construction claims and disputes division for Black & Veatch Corporation, a global contractor. He began in Singapore for Black & Veatch and was last assigned to its Kansas City offices. Mr. Harris' other experience includes working for the global contractor ABB in Bahrain, as a claims advisor to the Ministry of Housing in Bahrain, a Construction Manager for Bahrain University, and as an architect for various projects in London.
Mr. Harris has a diploma in arbitration from the University of Reading and a Diploma and Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Plymouth. In addition, Mr. Harris is an appointed Expert of the GCC Arbitration Center as well as a member of the Charter Institute of Arbitrators, the Project Management Institute, the British Institute of Management and the Royal Institute of British Architects.
