The Client and Its Challenge
A leading New England specialty construction and facilities management firm had limited knowledge of the core business of a recently acquired consulting engineering services firm.
The Risk Consulting Solution
Over approximately two weeks, Marsh consultants conducted an independent, third-party review of the new subsidiary, providing the parent company with a current state assessment of its business processes. Information about the condition of risks and operational controls at the engineering firm were provided. The business process review consisted of reviewing policy, project, and financial documentation; understanding operational policies and procedures; interviewing key management personnel; generating a report identifying risks and providing observations and recommendations based on industry best practices.
Results
During the independent business process review of the acquired engineering firm, Marsh consultants determined that, overall, the acquired firm was found to have strong operational policies and procedures. However, these practices were essentially undocumented. Marsh consultants also identified several opportunities for improvement and presented them to senior management for implementation.
Once the acquired business was clearly understood, there was an opportunity for the client to save a considerable amount on environmental insurance.
