The Client and Its Challenge
During its annual insurance renewal process, this client was dealing with an insurance provider that was reluctant to include one of its Mexican facilities in the policy because of concerns related to the structural integrity of the facility. The client, a $1.2 billion provider of premium food storage, preparation, and serving items to consumers in more than 100 countries, asked Marsh to inspect its Mexico facility and determine whether or not it was built in accordance with current applicable building standards as required by the plans and specifications.
The Risk Consulting Solution
Marsh responded by conducting an investigative field visit to the facility to confirm that the structural components were in fact build in accordance with the intended design. Services provided included:
- Assisting the client in determining if the initial design of the facility included the required seismic considerations
- Visiting the site and reviewing the original design to identify any building modifications that may have had an impact on the facility’s overall structural integrity
- Production of a final report, which discussed the construction methodology, the facility structure, and any building code compliance issues.
Result
Marsh was able to conduct the investigative structural review within five days of receiving the request from the client. The final report was delivered five days later, allowing the client to meet the renewal timeframe requirements as prescribed by the insurer. In addition, the findings contained in the facility structural review saved the client $40,000 to $50,000 in premium costs and allowed the company to retain its insurance.
