Case-In-Point Marsh’s Global Engineered Solution Wows Client

The Client and Its Challenge
This company consists of two divisions with several facilities. In the past, its insurer handled its loss control insurance needs. The company’s renewal period was fast approaching, and people within the organization were beginning to understand the importance of having more ownership of their loss control program. They also understood the value of having more information to share with prospective insurance markets.

In addition, it was becoming increasingly apparent that the organization’s loss control program should coincide with its business goals and objectives. This would enable them to embark upon long-term improvement programs that were not dependent on the changing views of insurance carriers. For this and a variety of other reasons, the company decided to release a request for proposal (RFP) on its loss control work—specifically loss prevention engineering consulting, marketing surveys, and all engineering work needed to support the insurance placement.

The Risk Consulting Solution
In response to the company’s RFP, Marsh consultants developed a consistent and standard approach for handling the loss control work at all facilities utilizing our Global Engineered Solutions (GES). We were able to demonstrate the benefits of GES, which included:

  • Putting control of the loss control program back into the company’s hands. During site visits, information is gathered and reviewed with the company. Presenting information to the market ensures that the information has the company’s buy-in and is factual and consistent from year to year.
  • Removing any underwriter bias during the report development stage.
  • Holistically looking at the entire organization in order to identify business risks that fall outside of the property loss control program arena.
  • Designing focused surveys and customized reports that are specific to the organization while providing the necessary information to the underwriters.
  • Working as an advisor with the company on long-term facility protection upgrade programs that would not be influenced or derailed by potential changes in insurance carriers.
Results
The company quickly grasped the benefits of working with Marsh and our GES program and granted all of its loss control program work to Marsh. Working collaboratively with the Marsh consultants, the company was able to improve the approach to its loss control program, benchmark its facilities against each other, and develop a strong program that actually provided more underwriting information to the market.
