One of the world's largest chemical manufacturers with multiple overseas operations, including manufacturing, chemical, and agricultural applications needed a more cost-effective way to train its global workforce in crisis-related policies, plans, and procedures.

The Risk Consulting Solution
The client engaged Marsh's Crisis Consulting practice to help develop and implement new educational and training programs within its specified budget. Marsh recommended a pilot program built around its Crisis Academy e-learning solution and offered the key decision makers the opportunity to access and evaluate selected Academy courses prior to rolling them out across the company. The senior executives found the program to be effective and decided to roll it out across the company.

Employees received training from two courses—"Foundations of Crisis Management" and "Foundations of Crisis Communications"—and had access to the Academy's expert tutors during a one-year engagement. The Academy courses and tutorial services enabled the client to educate and train employees worldwide with consistent crisis management plans, policies, and procedures to ensure an efficient and uniform response in the event of a crisis.

Results
The client was satisfied with the Academy courses and tutorial services as a way to prepare their employees for crises. By using Internet-based courses, the client avoided substantial travel costs, lowered its crisis training costs by 50 percent, and ensured that employees would all be responding consistently in the event of a crisis. The client continues to use the Academy beyond this pilot phase to train its employees.
