Are your employment practices putting your people and profitability at risk?

Profits and people are at risk if:

You do not have an effective return-to-work program—Establishing and managing an effective, strategic early return-to-work program can generate workers’ compensation savings.

You do not promote individual and group accountability for safety and workers’ compensation—Aligning individual and group accountability can increase participation and diligence, making programs more effective and reducing costs.

You have not linked your employee actions, work practices, or behavior with ergonomic solutions—Linking ergonomics with performance management or behavioral techniques can drive down workers’ compensation costs as well as improve trust, communication, and productivity.

You do not benchmark your program and compare results to industry peers—Using a consistent, centralized approach to data collection and benchmarking can help identify new opportunities, reduce costs, and improve productivity.
What Will You Say When They Ask What Happened?
  • Are my workers’ compensation cases escalating and fast becoming my Achilles’ heel?
  • Are my placement practices failing to match the right people to the right jobs?
  • Have productivity and profitability declined?
  • Does my workplace culture and environment put employees at risk?
  • Do I have a sufficient technology infrastructure to support and administer employee programs?
Who’s Looking Out for You?
Marsh's Workforce Strategies practice can help you address current challenges and take advantage of new opportunities in almost every phase of the employment life cycle — from establishing more effective screening and hiring practices, to implementing ergonomics and safety programs, to revamping return-to-work protocols.

Our consultants will help you build a business case for change. Through a phased approach, we will create a customized program that addresses your specific workforce challenges, assist in the implementation of new policies and procedures, and develop performance measures and benchmarking tools that encourage accountability at all levels of your organization.

Phase 1 — Diagnosis
In the first phase, our consultants examine current polices, procedures, and practices and evaluate their effectiveness. Existing return-to-work processes, safety and health programs, claim management practices, and continuous improvement processes are thoroughly reviewed. We examine the time it takes to file workers’ compensation claims and how quickly employees return to work. Additionally, your programs are benchmarked against peer data and best practices.

Phase 2 — Intervention
During the intervention phase, diagnostic results are used to identify areas for improvement and to determine which programs will deliver the greatest return on your investment.

Intervention solutions might include enhancing your return-to-work program or revamping your employee-placement practices. Another course of action might be a review of your workers’ compensation vendor policies and procedures. Engineering solutions can be used to mitigate ergonomic exposures. Another potential option may be a behavioral solution that improves overall productivity and safety in your facilities.

Phase 3 — Continuous Improvement
Finally, we will help you track results and measure progress toward identified goals, productivity improvements, and bottom-line cost savings. Measurement can help define the success of the project and determine when the organization is ready to tackle new challenges.

Employee Screening
Background screening services can help eliminate doubt about the integrity of job applicants and vendors. Our sister company Kroll can vet potential and existing hires, examine professional and academic claims, and identify a range of omitted issues that could affect job performance. Kroll also conducts substance abuse testing at its own labs and develops programs to help detect and prevent workplace violence, theft, injuries, and negligent hiring lawsuits.

Absence Management
For every dollar an employee spends on payroll, 15 cents is spent on paid absences, according to a recent survey.
Behavioral Services
Behavior-based safety techniques can improve productivity, quality, and safety.
